André and Gracia Mouche: a Swiss story with two names

André Mouche and his wife Gracia established their company in 1961 in Fahy, in the Swiss Jura. Their jewellery watches featured colourful decoration by Gracia, and the covered, semi rigid bracelet designs became a signature of the house. The brand’s own history credits her role directly.

Gracia deserves a prominent place in the story. The ornament is the first thing we see and often the reason we reach for the watch. A choice of petals, a painted stem, the balance between a coloured panel and its metal frame: these details shape its character as surely as the case does.

The house describes processing, assembly and decoration at its Fahy workshops, with fine brushes used to apply materials including lacquer, varnish and gold flecks. That attention to the surface helps explain the appeal of these small, expressive objects.

The secret watch and the peek a boo reveal

Closed, the blue Edelweiss presents a continuous floral composition. Open, it reveals a white dial, black numerals and delicately shaped hands. The hinge is part of the experience: checking the time involves a deliberate movement, followed by the return of the flower.

“Peek a boo” captures that playful moment well. It also gives a useful name to something people sometimes recognise before they know what to search for: a bracelet with a watch hidden inside, or a watch with a lid over its face.

For us, the charm lies in that private exchange. The decoration remains visible to everyone else; the time is there when you want it.

Edelweiss, painted flowers and the enamel watch

Across the examples photographed here, the edelweiss is the connecting detail. Pale petals surround a yellow centre, with green leaves bringing the flower into focus against the dark blue cover. The bracelet repeats the motif in miniature, so the decoration continues beyond the centrepiece.

The silver tone watch gives that blue a cool, crisp setting. The gold tone version adds warmth and a border of clear crystals. They suggest different combinations in a wardrobe: pale grey and cream for the silver; ivory silk, chocolate brown or a dark evening sleeve for the gold.

The photographs offer their own pleasure: the gloss of the coloured panels, the small variations in the floral shapes, and the way a narrow line of metal frames each section. These are details to spend a moment with.

The pendant watch: a flower worn close

The secret moves from the wrist to a chain in this André Mouche pendant watch. Cobalt blue petals sit against an ivory coloured cover, enclosed by a textured gold tone border. The effect recalls blue and white porcelain, translated into something small enough to wear.

Open the cover and a white dial appears beneath. A pendant gives the reveal a different rhythm: lifting the piece from a fine knit, glancing at the time, then letting the flower settle back against the fabric.

We would let this one sit over a simple neckline. The decorated cover and chain already provide a focal point; a soft blouse or a plain knit gives both room to be noticed.

André Mouche Aura: a change of mood

The pink Aura shows another side of the jewellery watch. Its dial remains visible, surrounded by a frame that can be changed. In the Gilded Hour set photographed below, the three bezel options are a polished silver tone ring, a marbled pink ring and a clear crystal border.

Pink panels run along the slender bangle, carrying the dial’s colour around the wrist. The marbled ring makes that colour feel continuous; the plain ring simplifies the outline; the crystal frame catches a little more light.

The Aura is an open dial design, so it belongs in the wider André Mouche story rather than being labelled a secret watch. Its appeal is in the same spirit: a small piece of jewellery with room for personal expression.

Choosing a vintage André Mouche watch

Start with the piece you want to wear. A covered bangle, an interchangeable bezel watch and a pendant serve different purposes, even when they share the same decorative sensibility. Then look closely at the details that affect fit, enjoyment and upkeep.

The bracelet and its fit

The floral cover and hinge

Look for clear photographs with the cover both open and closed. Check its alignment, the hinge and the edges of the decoration. The cover should be operated gently; if it resists, have it examined rather than forcing it.

The surface and the set

Inspect coloured panels for chips or losses, plated areas for wear and any crystal border for missing stones. With an Aura set, confirm which bezel rings are included. A box can be lovely to have, but it does not establish the age or originality of every component.

The movement and servicing

Confirm that the watch runs and ask what has been checked. Battery references and movement details should come from the individual watch. The quartz examples shown here should not be used to assume the specification of every André Mouche ever made.
