Leather wrap

The Gucci 6100L takes the idea of a watch and reduces it to its purest form. A slim rectangular dial is set within an elongated gold tone plaque, while a black leather strap threads directly through the case itself. The result feels less like a conventional wristwatch and more like a piece of sculptural jewellery wrapped around the wrist. The tiny white dial appears almost suspended within the larger gold form, creating a striking contrast between precision and scale.

Its design language sits firmly within late twentieth century Italian minimalism. Rather than relying on gemstones, decoration or complicated shapes, Gucci uses proportion, negative space and material contrast to create visual impact. The large circular apertures at either end of the case become part of the design itself, allowing the leather strap to pass through the gold plaque like a ribbon through a piece of jewellery. The composition recalls modernist sculpture and luxury handbag hardware, where the absence of material becomes just as important as the material itself. It is bold, graphic and unmistakably Gucci.
